Smart Ways to Place Rugs in Your Condo

Category : Homemaking

If you have been to several modern condominiums, you probably know by now that rugs and carpets are the way to go. The space just looks dull and bland without them. Rugs add style and elegance. When you have rugs as a focal point in your condo, you can let go of other decorations and embellishments that only clutter your space. Pretty rugs give you the license to be more minimalistic in design which is essential to condo living.

However, just like any furniture or décor, rugs can’t just be pretty and chic. They also have to be placed properly. Where you place it is one of the most important rules for rugs in your home because no matter how nice it looks, it won’t matter when placed incorrectly. When you pick your carpet, make sure that it also complements your wall so that everything works in harmony.

Divide with rugs

Among the challenges of condo living is finding ways to separate the living room from the dining area even if they occupy practically the same space. For studio-type condos, finding a space for the bedroom also adds to the challenge. Instead of using traditional dividers and shelves to somehow divide your condo into their respective functions, use a carpet or rug instead.

For the living room, pick a rug big enough to outline the perimeter. It doesn’t matter if the furniture fits on or off the carpet for as long as it pulls together the area. In the dining room, the carpet should go under the table and big enough so much so that when you pull a chair, the chair stays on the carpet. This adds cohesion to every space in your condo. So when you are decorating using rugs in your condo, carefully place them in a way that it will define an area.

A rugged complement

A rug is not meant to just accent the floor and the pieces of furniture on it. A rug can also be used to compliment wall ideas in your condo such as your temporary wallpapers, paint, and even your hanging curtains. Do not be afraid to use printed and colorful rugs and carpets because they can easily harmonize with your decors and other no-paint wall ideas to splash your condo. A dark-striped carpet, for example, is in fine tune with eclectic-framed paintings in solid colors.

Open floor plans is the trend in condo living in the Philippines. It gives the homeowner the free hand in designing it in such a way that it works perfectly with his or her lifestyle. It gives the homeowner control of every space in the condo. Rugs and carpets work well with open floor plans. One tip for using rugs in your condo is to utilize them to make the space look bigger. This can be done by making the pieces of furniture float. Put the furniture, the couch for example, away from the wall and onto the carpet. Hang something on the wall instead. This gives the illusion of a bigger space.
