Defining community effort, the Ohana Place blood drive witnessed a considerable number of participants who donated blood for a cause.
Held last April 12, 2014, Saturday, at the clubhouse of the Ohana Place Residences in Las Piñas City, the activity was joined in by the unit owners, tenants, corporate employees, guests and domestic help of occupants.
The blood drive—a first for Ohana Place—received the altruistic support of 86 participants from which 11 bags (400 cc each) of blood were qualified and collected.
According to organizers, each bag, also equivalent to 1 pint, is thoroughly screened and separated into white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets, which are respectively donated to cancer (leukemia) patients, people undergoing surgery, and dengue-stricken patients.
In effect, a single donor could possibly aid three lives.
Apart from saving lives, to have a blood bank readily available and accessible at the Philippine Blood Center for Ohana Place’s community was also among the aims of the activity.
